Sharps Safety

Objective:

Activities Required for Diamond Status/Measures:

• 100% of staff complete an in-service training module (PowerPoint Presentation) on needle stick prevention.
• Facility must complete the CDC's Baseline Program Assessment Worksheet. This worksheet should be adapted for use in your unit.

Optional Activities:

• Develop display board of sharps devices for your facility.
• Make an inventory list of sharps devices for your facility.
• Create a model exposure control plan for your facility.
• Complete the sharps crossword puzzle as a warm-up to your in-service.
• Complete all of Appendix A in the Workbook Toolkit.
• Create an exposure treatment poster for your facility.
• Distribute the CDC's sharps brochure and/or hang CDC posters in your unit.
