Objective:
To decrease the number of sticks within the dialysis unit by educating staff on needle stick prevention and protocol for sharps exposure.
Activities Required for Diamond Status/Measures:
100% of staff complete an in-service training module (PowerPoint Presentation) on needle stick prevention.
Facility must complete the CDC's Baseline Program Assessment Worksheet. This worksheet should be adapted for use in your unit.
Optional Activities:
Develop display board of sharps devices for your facility.
Make an inventory list of sharps devices for your facility.
Create a model exposure control plan for your facility.
Complete the sharps crossword puzzle as a warm-up to your in-service.
Complete all of Appendix A in the Workbook Toolkit.
Create an exposure treatment poster for your facility.
Distribute the CDC's sharps brochure and/or hang CDC posters in your unit.
